I have played this course several times it is a really good value and the mountain views are amazing. It is challenging enough for lower handicap players but not too hard to where higher handicap players could still enjoy the course. If you go in the fall time you get really good views of the trees and leaves. There are several cabins that are close by where you can rent for several people if need be.
I can't speak to the golf, but the staff here shut down the course for eclipse 2017 and allowed people to set up to watch the eclipse. We had a photo rig and several staff etc came by, very nice folks.
Beautiful course with lots of scenery. Greens (except one), fairways and traps in excellent condition. Greens are fast and have interesting undulations. Lots of water which comes into play. Fairways are mostly medium to narrow with a few wider ones.
Cons From out of town had to rent clubs, rental clubs awful driver grip destroyed and covered in a pintar like substance destroyed my glove and irons where from like 1960 and had a mini golf putter. Tee boxes in awful condition some not even grass mud or dirt. Yardage markers way off 20-30yards off actual distance and signs at tee box worn and not ledgible.
I have a timeshare in Gatlinburg and when I am looking to play a little golf this is my course of choice. If you want wonderful scenery and a taste of "mountain golf" without the ridiculousness of Gatlinburg Municipal take a little drive out to Townsend and play here. The greensfees and the views can't be beat and most people have not discovered this gem yet so it's easy to get a teetime too. #10 (a long downhill Par 3) is all the challenge you can want and one of my fondest memories will always be the Par I scored on this hole on my last visit. You will understand the excitement the first time you step on the #10 Tee and try to figure out which club you should hit!
Pros greens in pretty good condition and carts are brand new and clean.
